Education. Inspiration. Fun. These three words sum up the experience at Signals 19 — and today was no exception. Keeping the energy going from beginning to end is no easy feat, but we finished the event strong with a few laughs, some wisdom from our clients, a celebration of great marketing, and two incredible keynotes.
We got insights on loyalty from Andrew Davis
Following a hilarious opening sketch on the “joys” of being a digital marketer by Chicago’s own Second City (something we can all relate to), best-selling author and speaker Andrew Davis kicked things off with a high-energy discussion of how to create loyalty — and we needed that energy after all the fun on Thursday night!
In his talk, Andrew started out by questioning the concept of the “sales funnel” — a concept that’s been around since 1898 — because let’s face it, a lot has changed since then! Instead, he believes that marketers need to focus on creating a “Loyalty Loop” — a series of encounters that elicit intense and eager enjoyment, approval, or interest.
To build this loop, Andrew believes that marketers need to create customer experiences made up of “micro moments” that spur action, build anticipation, and answer questions.
“Building awareness is about telling people we’re different. Building experiences shows people we’re different.” — Andrew Davis

We shared insights and celebrated incredible work with our clients
Led by our Chief Customer Officer Michelle Curless, “Tuning In to Customer Signals,” provided a lively panel discussion as leaders from three different functional areas shared their perspective on customer relationships and how to meet the expectations of the ever-evolving consumer.
Michael Stutts, Executive Vice President & Chief Customer Officer of Bloomin' Brands, talked about the importance of going beyond discounts to build loyalty in the restaurant industry. Sanjay Gill, Chief Executive Officer at Purebaby, shared the community building experiences that bring new parents together to share their learnings. And Rafael De los Santos Navarro, former Head of Digital for Real Madrid, spoke about the challenges of connecting with 600 million devoted football fans worldwide.
“We have an opportunity to create happiness.” — Michael Stutts, VP & CCO, Bloomin’ Brands

We were inspired by Amy Purdy’s resilience and courage
Competing at an elite world-class level is no small feat for an athlete, but imagine doing it with two prosthetic legs. Since losing both of her legs in a near-death experience at age 19, Amy Purdy has found ways to turn her greatest loss into her greatest advantage.
Despite a current health crisis, Amy joined us at Signals 19 to share her story. We were truly moved to hear how she fought back against incredible odds to bring snowboarding to the Paralympic games, earned snowboarding medals in both the 2014 and 2018 Paralympics, finished as runner-up in Dancing with the Stars, and joined Oprah on her “Life You Want” speaking tour.
Amy’s talk closed out Signals 19 on a high note, and inspired us all to rethink our abilities and what we can achieve.
If you were with us at Signals 19, we hope you’ll share your experiences on social media using the hashtag #Signals19. And if you like what you saw in the product keynote on Thursday, why not go ahead and request a demo?
If you’ve been watching from the sidelines, we hope you’ll be motivated to join us next year in Chicago for Signals 20! We’ll share details on next year’s event as soon as they’re available. Hope to see you there!
